Cirebon

"Mar, kayaknya aku bakal ke tempatmu Senin depan, deh."
"Mar, I think I will come to your place on next Monday."

"Ayo, ayo!"
"Let's go, then!"

That's a very short conversation about my unplanned trip to Cirebon - since my holiday is full of unproductive days. Cirebon means City of Shrimp. Cirebon is a seashore city in the North Java which is one of greatest terasi (Indonesian traditional seasoning made from fermented shrimp) manufacturers. The temperature when I got there was more than 32 celcius degree plus intense sunlight. Almost died because of dehydration, omg. Don't ever forget to bring sunglasses.

I'm really enjoy being a traveller nowadays. Walk into the place I've never walk before. Eat foods I've never ate before. And Cirebon's culinary experience is just perfect in my tongue so far. If you're in Cirebon, you have to try nasi jamblang (jamblang rice). It's a small-served rice as a default on jamblang leaf, with other dishes you can choose as much as you want - of course with different price. Honesty I spent IDK 5k only. Never imagined the price would be that cheap! other must-try foods are: mie keriting singkawang (singkawang noodle), tapel, and nasi lengko (lengko rice). Besides of many varieties of food, Cirebon has Kejaksaan Square - a mosque area with big field in front of it. Since it's a Ramadhan when I came there, this place is crowded. Wasn't an easy way to get in and get out. Make sure all of your belongings are still in your sight.

Special pictures for you. Enjoy as always!

Summer in Wuhan Part 2

Conquer holiday's laziness is accomplished!

This post is still about my Wuhan experience due to summer school. I didn't waste my time by only stayed in the hotel when the class was over. I choosed to go around Wuhan.. many times by myself, which is crazy enough. There was always a chance for me to get lost there. Most of Wuhan (or Chinese) people don't speak English. Such a great combination of disaster. And the fact was.. every people I met there considered me as local resident based on my face for sure. So unfair I guess, when I can't speak Chinese at all.

Okay, back to the topic.

Inia's friend invited us to go to heritage area (too bad I forget the name) in Wuhan. Actually, it was one of our agenda besides went to church that's still in the same area. This place is full of old buildings, most of them was built in 60's, and now the buildings are used as shops. They sold postcards, handmade accesories (bags, necklaces, bracelets, etc.), paintings (yelled by old lady here because I supposted to be not took any picture here), and of course.. foods. The place was so crowded on weekend like typical tourist attraction. One thing I put my attention for: These buildings are well maintained. I can see the goverment's concern on keep their heritage for generations.

In the next route, we went to the street-market area. This place is MORE crowded than the heritage area. Never saw foods as much as this for the rest of my life. The pork-stick captivated me at first. But I choosed something more refreshing because I started to feel thirsty after a long walk. Yes, finally grabbed a fruit-bowl on my hands. It included slice of cherries, grape-like fruits (?). dragon fruits, green grapes, watermelons, strawberries, etc., with milk on the top. Yum!

On the other day, I went to Optics Valley Square by train. Thank God I didn't get lost and got back to the hotel safely. And another good news was I can read Hanzi (Chinese Letter) right! In this place, there are a lot of shopping malls with many variations of price. What a true reliever for girls! I successfully walked around 3 malls in a day, of course with the comfiest footwear I have (re. flip flops). With (not really) satisfied feeling, I have to return because the last train is only until 11 P.M.

The point is, people life in the modern world without forget where they came from. What a great pleasure to know you, Wuhan.

Enjoy the pictures!

Summer in Wuhan Part 1

Eventough it's super late, let me tell you my experience about go somewhere I've neven been there before.

On the middle of May, I went to Wuhan University due to summer school which is organized by International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). Wuhan University is the center of geodesy and geomatics research in China, also it's China's most beautiful campus. Wuhan University is in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. I stayed there for 10 days in hotel located right beside the campus, so it's so easy to enter campus area only by take a walk. Wuhan University provides campus-bus for reach some further parts of the campus by pay 1 RMB (Approx. 2k IDR). You have to know, the campus area is huge! Actually a lot bigger than my campus.

We're placed with 1 other friend in 1 room. Since I'm the only participant from Indonesia, so I don't have any Indonesian with me. Then, that's how I know Inia. She's from Poland, and she's currently doing research for her doctoral degree. And after all these things is over, I still miss her; Miss how she got angry with my stupidity; Miss when we drank beers and searched for ice cream as before-sleep-ritual. Haha. Inia gave me a lot of sweets from Poland (and made me worried about my weight). I believe one day, in another ocassion, we gonna meet again, when I'm already as amazing as you :)

Besides the main event, there's day when we did tour to The Gorges Dam. We needed about 2 hours-trip with high-speed train to reach the location of the dam. The Gorges Dam is currently the world's biggest dam which spans the Yangtze River with 2 kilometres long. It's amazing how they 'cut' the mountain to estabilish that area.
Another tour is about to visit Geostar. Geostar is a company concerned in geospatial information, it includes provide data for geospatial-facilities development and research. Since Google Maps isn't available in China, Geostar created Mapworld. Mapworld is an online map with many basic informations, like address, coordinate, and picture; Also specific informations, like the quality of the road that's connected with censor in the phone. These specific informations enable user to avoid the traffic jam.

Taking Back the Road

Set a new record with 3 months wihout any post. Still think you're a good blogger, Sherley?

Let me tell you in hiperbolic way, like a thousand times, my campus life has killed my entire happiness. When last semester I thought I've been crazy enough. No. It's just a new beginning. This semester is MUCH MORE crazier. Heartless number of assignments, projects, practicums, etc.

Yesterday is my last day of exam. Actually not. But who cares about the rest (or just me who don't care).
Then chose to spend the wednesday night in Braga Street as a pay off for this stressful week.

Yeah, all I need is my camera, good foods, and of course, best companion. Suddenly my life feels right again.

Enjoy the photos as always!

Boredom won't Kill

Almost 2 weeks ago go back to Bandung.
New year's already standing in front of my eyes, means new semester.. and new spirit for sure!
Wish you'll have your best year ahead and good luck with all of your resolutions for this year.
Last Wednesday, the day after I returned to Bandung, I took these photos at Surabi Enhaii. If you still don't know what surabi is.. Hmm it can be explained as simple as Indonesian traditional 'pancakes'. But it's baked, not cooked. We ordered surabi with jackfruit and cheese, also surabi with pineapple jam. For the beverages, we choosed hot milo and lychee soda. The pineapple jam-surabi is a little bit dissapointing for me, yet the jackfruit-surabi is totally recommended!
Went there with my friends. Thank God I have them-a place to share some happiness.

Day Minus One

So this post is all about holiday! Oyeah, Baby!

Last night.. 'til this morning was a huge revenge for these hectic days of exams and assignments.
Gonna introduce you my boys. This year is our first year for being together.
We laughed, we cried, we shared some secrets sometimes. They are another colors for another side of me, for sure. And I know, thank them for that won't be enough.

Decided quickly to go to Cihampelas Walk. Did photoshoot (with our new jackets). Dinner at Mujigae, a korean restaurant. Wanna returned home early, but then cancelled it.. 'cause we still craved for karaoke. In the end, I almost lost my voice. Haha. Can't wait for our next freak-adventure!
